R33 "Winter" Update Release

Added on 18 February 2022 by ai_enabled.

CryoFall R33 "Winter" Update is available now!

This time you will be able to explore the new Arctic biome full of new monsters and dangers. Make sure to pack warm clothes!

To go along with this new territory we have prepared several new monster types to make exploration a bit more difficult and also serve as a reliable way to obtain Keinite in the late game.

We will also finally introduce skins for energy and exotic weapons which have been requested by the players since the time skins were introduced in the last update. This should offer additional variety in the late game.

We have also come up with another small thing we can use to reward all of our supporters! Everyone who owns the Supporter Pack will receive a new set of unique weapon and armor skins provided exclusively to the Supporter Pack owners! These unique skins will be a permanent feature to all Supporter Pack owners, regardless of when you have purchased it or if you will purchase it in the future. You can buy the Supporter Pack in Steam https://store.steampowered.com/app/1178321/CryoFall__Supporter_Pack/

Savegames compatibility

First of all, we must highlight that the saved games are completely compatible with the previous (R31-R32) versions of the game. You can continue playing in your local worlds without worries. The only caveat is that saves from previous versions of the game will continue to use the old world map, which does not have the new Arctic biome, and so there will be no new monsters and no other Arctic content. The only way to update the world map is to start a new game. Therefore, if you're playing on the local server we would recommend finishing the current saved game (escape the planet) and then using the New Game + feature with which your character will be transferred to a new world while retaining the unlocked skills, technologies, etc.

Official servers wipe

All the official servers were wiped with this update according to their schedule: Official PvP servers wipe every 3 weeks and official PvE servers wipe every 6 weeks. Please read the previous announcement for more details. We welcome you to join all the newly started servers with the fresh economy and all of the new stuff introduced by the update!

Legacy support

Even though the R33 update is 100% compatible with the previous version's savegames, as usual, we're providing a legacy branch for the previous version client available if you intend to keep using it on a server that is not yet updated to R33. Just open game properties in the Steam Client, navigate to the BETAS tab, and select the "legacy-r32" branch.

R32 "Customizations" Update Release

Added on 31 December 2021 by ai_enabled.

First of all, we wish you a Happy New Year!

R32 "Customizations" Update is available now. This time we've introduced support for additional cosmetical customizations in the form of skins. When you craft almost any weapon or a piece of equipment you will be able to select one of several skins available for each. The skins don't affect anything except the appearance of the equipment.

This update offers both free skins obtained simply by playing the game, as well as some limited skins which you can unlock by participating in some events we might hold in the future or by playing the game during a particular period (we will announce when any such things will be happening), and obviously, there is a number of skins which can be purchased directly. Purchasing skins goes toward supporting the developers. Thank you!

Also, the good part is—to use skins you don't have to own them. You can exchange skinned items with other players or your friends freely. You can also loot them in PvP from defeated enemies. So, you can use all skins even if you haven't yet unlocked them or if you missed an event where a particular skin was made available.

Anyway, we are looking forward to seeing more visual variety in the game with this update! All without cluttering the tech tree with almost-identical items like was before this update. By the way, we have also updated visuals for practically all equipment and weapons to make them look even better.

Aside from the system explained above with this update we have also added a few pieces of content into the game as well as some new features. But the biggest change is our continued work on balance to make the game feel even more fun, be it solo or playing in multiplayer (you'll find a link to the detailed patch notes down below).

Savegames compatibility

The saved games are completely compatible with the previous (R31) version of the game. You can continue playing in your local worlds without worries.

Official servers wipe

All the official servers were wiped with this update according to their schedule: Official PvP servers are wiping every 3 weeks and official PvE servers are wiping every 6 weeks. Please read the previous announcement for more details. We welcome you to join all the newly started servers with the fresh economy and all of the new stuff introduced by the update!

Legacy support

Even though the R32 update is 100% compatible with the previous R31 version, as usual, we're providing a legacy branch for the previous version client available if you intend to keep using it on a server that is not yet updated to R32. Just open game properties in the Steam Client, navigate to the BETAS tab, and select the "legacy-r31" branch.

R31 "Singleplayer" Update Release

Added on 8 October 2021 by ai_enabled.

The long-awaited R31 “Singleplayer Update” is finally here!

Everyone on the team worked hard to make this a reality. CryoFall now finally has full local game support where you can create a custom world, configure everything to your liking by selecting one of several game modes (presets), and just enjoy the game in singleplayer or with your friends over LAN or internet via virtual LAN (with software such as Hamachi). If you don’t want to create custom servers you can continue using official or community servers, same as before!

But that is obviously not the only change, so let’s take a look at what else this update has in store for you!

Another major change is the introduction of a proper end-game goal. Now your journey in the world of CryoFall will culminate in finally constructing a means to escape this hostile planet. Building this massive rocket won’t be an easy task as it will require a significant technological foundation and accomplishments, however.

Building the rocket is separated into many individual stages where you first build the launchpad and then slowly, little by little prepare everything for your journey by constructing individual schematics which ultimately enable you to complete this megaproject.

New Game +

After completing the local game you can start a “New Game +” where you keep your existing character with all of the technologies and skills, but start in a fresh world for a different experience where all of the technological advancements are available to you from the start!

Other new content and features

We have also introduced a number of new features and content into the game. One such example you can see above—is the new biological mech called “Nemesis” which uses two new Keinite based weapons that were also introduced in this update.

There are also some new features requested by players such as item recycling at a tinker table, new Steam achievements, along with the new completionist page to track which events you have participated in.

Complete rebalancing of the game

Another thing that usually doesn’t get much attention is the complete rebalance of the game! We think it is equally as important as introducing new content. Thanks to the detailed survey we conducted in the summer of this year and massive players' feedback received during that time we have completely reworked practically every aspect of the game progression from skills, technologies, power production, events, and creatures to practically every single building in the game with massive changes which should streamline the gameplay and remove any remaining grind, which is especially important in competitive modes.

Official servers wipe

As was mentioned in our pre-release post, all of the official servers have been wiped and consolidated to offer better player experience in each region thanks to higher online numbers, rather than splitting the playerbase across multiple servers in each region as was the case recently. Additionally, along with the usual PvP server wipes (every 3 weeks), official PvE servers will also have regular wipes every 6 weeks. If you’d like to learn more please read the previous announcement here: https://store.steampowered.com/news/app/829590/view/2940276721136787323

We welcome you to join all the newly started servers with the fresh economy and all of the new stuff introduced by the update!

CryoSmall & CryoFive

Featured community servers CryoSmall and CryoFive have been wiped as well. These are the recommended PvP servers for North America and Europe (there are no official PvP servers in these regions). What makes them so good? A strict limit of 2 (for CryoSmall) or 5 (for CryoFive) players per team, no alliances permitted. You can have peace of mind that the server provides equal opportunities for everyone to compete, and if you notice someone violating the rules just make a screenshot and report in CryoSmall Discord.

Legacy support

Even though the R31 update is 100% compatible with the previous R30 version, as usual, we're providing a legacy branch for the previous version client available if you intend to keep using it on a server that is not yet updated to R31. Just open game properties in the Steam Client, navigate to the BETAS tab, and select the "legacy-r30" branch.

Survey, Roadmap, and official PvP wipe

Added on 24 May 2021 by ai_enabled.

Survey

With the successful CryoFall release on Steam, we've received a tremendous amount of players' feedback in various areas of the game! Based on that we've prepared a formal survey that will help us better put it all together and define where we want to take the game in the future.

We want to make sure that we understand what's most important from the players' perspective so we can assign priorities and deliver the most requested improvements first.

Please follow this link to participate in the survey:
https://forms.gle/2jnk7qo8pPynDozF6 (available only in English)

The survey should only take a few minutes to complete. We are using Google Forms, so please note that you need to have a Google account as this is the only way we can ensure that the form will not be spammed and we will have valid replies.

Roadmap

We've updated the public roadmap to include our short-term plans and expand the number of ideas that we're considering to include in the future updates. Please vote for features that you wish to see the most!

Official PvP servers wipe

As you may know, all official PvP servers have regular wipes to ensure a level playing field and offer a fresh economy with each new round. It's a major event that brings a lot of players to compete with each other, starting from a common point.

We would like to remind you that all the official PvP servers have a scheduled wipe this week—Thursday, May 27th. Usually, the wipe happens on Fridays, but this time we know a lot of players are eagerly awaiting this wipe, so it will happen one day earlier!

Additionally, official PvP servers' wipe interval will be changed to every 3 weeks (previously it was 4 weeks). With this wipe, we will also deploy experimental rebalancing changes through server rates adjustment to make it a more balanced experience where you don't need to spend as much time gathering resources to craft your equipment and build sturdy walls while also reducing the risk of getting raided by bombs (their damage will be decreased though it will be easier to craft them due to higher resource rates). These changes will provide more dynamic gameplay.

Wipe time: 1 PM by GMT/UTC time (as usual).
For your convenience, here is the local time in the primary time zones we have:
• 8 AM by Central US (CDT, GMT-5 summer time)
• 3 PM by Central EU (CET, GMT+2 summer time)
• 16:00 by Russia/Moscow (GMT+3)
• 21:00 by China/Beijing (GMT+8)
• 10 AM by Argentina/Brazil (GMT-3)
• 10 PM by Japan and South Korea (GMT+9)

Important note: Official Asia 1 PvP and Asia 2 PvP servers will be united after the wipe in favor of a single Asia PvP server. This way we expect a larger population on a single server in this region which should offer a more exciting experience rather than having two servers with smaller populations on each. Also, we're happy to announce that we have deployed a new Anti-DDoS solution and expect that Asia servers can withstand any attacks smoothly.

CryoSmall & CryoFive wipe

As an additional note, a popular PvP community server CryoFive NA wiped last Saturday. CryoSmall NA and CryoFive Europe will have a wipe this Saturday (29th May, 12 PM GMT/UTC). These featured community PvP servers offer the most balanced experience for PvP players. With a strict limit of 2 (CryoSmall) or 5 (CryoFive) players per team (no alliances permitted) and reputable administration enforcing this rule, you can have peace of mind that the server provides equal opportunities for everyone to compete. Join CryoSmall Discord to read further details!

Out of Steam Early Access!

Added on 1 May 2021 by ai_enabled.

We're happy to announce that CryoFall has just left Steam Early Access!

This is a big moment for the development team! As we are celebrating this milestone, we also know there is a long way ahead with making CryoFall an even better game. We're grateful to our Early Access players, publisher, translators, additional contributors, open source maintainers, our families and friends, and many other people that have given us their help and showed patience to allow us to bring the game to this milestone. Thank you, guys!

The game has been in active development since late 2015—yes, roughly five years, two of which in Steam Early Access. We started from scratch by writing a custom game engine, and over the years we've added everything we wanted to see in the release version and ensured that the game offers a smooth experience with no bugs or other issues. We are proud to present the current iteration of the game for public view and the enjoyment of thousands of players!

Let's check some of the important things that you need to keep track of before proceeding to play the 1.0!

Version naming change

To avoid confusion with 1.0 numeration and our established naming scheme, the latest major update A30 (v0.30) is now renamed to R30 (v1.30). Every future major update will follow this scheme—e.g. R31, R32, and, hopefully, so on!

Demo version

Same as before, we will continue to offer a free demo version of the game, which is actually a full version of the game that you can play for 8 hours on any of the official servers. So, if you (or your friends) are considering whether to take the plunge and purchase CryoFall—hesitate no longer! Simply try the demo and judge for yourself if CryoFall is the game for you!

We will also reset the demo timer with the v1.0 release giving players that have already tried the demo extra time to evaluate the game.

Future development

The release of version 1.0 doesn't mean we will stop here. It's a major milestone that we will follow up with future improvements to expand the world, bringing in more content and features. This is the most exciting time in development, as the game will have more players than ever, providing their feedback and helping us to shape the future of the game!

We're planning to provide a detailed roadmap soon after the release hype is over and we can take a good breath.

PvP servers

As promised, official PvP servers were wiped today to offer a fresh economy and ensure a level playing field for everyone. The future schedule will follow our standard for official PvP servers with a four-week wipe cycle.

With the v1.0 release, we've considered launching an official PvP server in North America, however, there is something better now! You will be delighted to know that a new featured community server CryoFive North America has just opened. It offers the most balanced experience for PvP players in this region! With a strict limit of 5 players per team (no alliances) and reputable administration enforcing this rule, you can have peace of mind that this server provides equal opportunities for everyone to compete. Please also look for featured CryoSmall and CryoFive servers located in Europe if you're looking for a similar experience—they will have a wipe this and the next weekend and many players will rush there to try their skills!

PvE servers

We've launched a new official PvE server: Official UK PvE. We will launch more servers to expand the capacity if necessary.

There will be no wipe on the official PvE servers for at least the next six months after v1.0 releases. We recognize that a portion of PvE players doesn't enjoy the usual session-based approach to server operation (e.g. server wipes), so we will do our absolute best to keep and transfer their progress into future updates without server resets. However, as you know CryoFall is not an MMO with permanent characters but a session-based game with a multitude of independent servers, so no individual server can be permanent. Continued future development means that eventually there may be a need to reset the world to introduce new features and changes to the world map. On the other hand, if you are playing on a private server you are not affected by this, as you can decide when you would like to reset the world (if at all). We will also continue to offer legacy versions of the game for those who would like to use them.

A30 "Keinite" Update Release

Added on 16 April 2021 by ai_enabled.

It is almost time for CryoFall to leave Early Access (the release date is set for 29th of April and we will share detailed information about it separately in a few days!), so this final update before the official release is meant to offer one last round finishing touches and add all of the small features we absolutely wanted to have in the game before release

So, let's dive in and see what we have to offer this time!

The first thing you will probably notice when joining the game now is the addition of the so-called Origin System. Now you can choose your character background and receive several small advantages to various areas based on what you selected.

Next, is the new mineral Keinite after which this new update is named. While the Pragmium is our energy-related mineral this new Keinite isn't so much a mineral, but rather an alien substance of biological origin! It's essential for exotic weapons which are also added in A30 Update. You will be able to create this new type of biological weapons in Tier 5.

Another massive addition is the Pragmium Power Plant. It will serve as the main source of energy for massive bases in the late game. This should allow you to focus on other interesting activities rather than worrying about maintaining your base's power supply. And while we are at it—we have also made solar panels significantly cheaper and rebalanced practically everything related to energy. This aspect of the game should be more rewarding and enjoyable now with much less grind (as long as you do the optimal things rather than trying to stubbornly use steam generators even in Tier 5! :) ).

Creatures A.I. and balance were also changed substantially. They are more aggressive and faster now and will react to your actions rather than just idly waiting their turn to be killed. But that's not all—now you can also encounter various mutated forms of existing creatures offering more variety to your hunting excursions. And yes, these mutations are caused by the new Keinite substance.

The faction system has also been reworked with new permissions and completely reworked the Leaderboard (faction score) system. This should offer much more interesting and varied competition for both PvP and PvE servers. UI of the faction screen has also been completely reworked.

Reworked events in A30 will also offer more opportunities to participate for all players, especially in PvE for bigger events such as world bosses (Pragmium Queen and Sand Tyrant). Certain events also offer better rewards (including newly introduced Keinite).

Some other key additions and changes this time

- Vehicle naming—set a custom name to your vehicle to easily distinguish it from other vehicles that you own!
- A lot of existing items, world objects, minerals, characters, plants, props, etc. have been updated with new visuals to make them fit better with our current visual style and to bring their quality to our current standard
- When you send drones to mine a mineral or cut a tree, they automatically reserve space in your inventory to prevent a situation where there is no more space for them to return
- Keinite can be obtained from all event creatures and if using the new Keinite extractor from some regular creatures and mutants
- Reworked implants balance and crafting costs plus added an additional new implant
- And as always - dozens of new items, structures, technologies, status effects, and more!

Official servers wipe

This time all official PvP servers are wiped. We welcome you to join all the newly started servers with the fresh economy and all of the new stuff introduced by the update!
PvE servers are NOT affected and you can continue playing with your existing characters after the wipe.

Legacy support

As usual, we make a legacy branch for the previous (A29) version client available if you intend to keep using it on a community or a private server. Just open game properties in the Steam Client, navigate to the BETAS tab, and select the "legacy-a29" branch.

A29 "Factions" Update Release

Added on 20 January 2021 by Lurler.

We are happy to announce that the A29 "Factions" Update is now live!

As you know, the Factions Update has been in active development and testing for quite a while now but it is finally here! It includes many important additions and slowly brings the game towards the finished state. There are still things we want to complete before the full release this year, but it's getting closer and closer to how we envisioned CryoFall to be in its finished form.

Without further ado, let's dive in and see some of the additions and changes.

The Factions System is the key feature this time. You can create your own faction (in both PvP and PvE) and invite other players to join it. Aside from the usual private factions, you can also create a public faction where anyone can join freely. Once your faction is established you can assign roles to its members allowing you to tightly manage various permissions. You can also configure your land claims and doors to ensure that only certain faction roles would have access to them. So, you don't need to worry that if you invite strangers into your faction that they might deconstruct everything and steal your possessions—just don't give them unnecessary permissions.

Another important feature is the faction Leaderboard System. Players can compete for the highest rank on the server. The game will track the progress of all faction members and derive a score for each faction. It tracks a number of various metrics measuring the faction's performance in comparison to other factions.

We didn’t forget about the game world as well. This time we also made massive changes to the CryoFall map adding several completely new locations including two new boss arenas, an entire massive city in the center of the map, a northern desert area, and even a completely new hidden island which is not accessible by the usual means.

Those changes to the map tie neatly with the introduction of the new boss—Sand Tyrant! This also comes along with a bunch of new creatures and entirely new world events including a new creature migration event, a fishing event, and more.

Another thing our community has been asking for a while for PvP servers is the sentry turrets! Yes, they are finally here and can be constructed on your base to protect it from intruders while you are away. Though, if you are going offline for a while you can still use our existing S.H.I.E.L.D. system which makes it possible to go offline with peace of mind that your base will be safe while you are not playing.

If you are more inclined towards creative play there are plenty of new things here too. You can grow new plants such as potatoes and flowers and cook entirely new dishes.

There are also lots of new decorations for your bases, including interactive objects like doorbells or TV (which you can switch on).

Network of alien teleports will now make it possible for you to fast travel around the map, which is especially important as the map keeps growing with new areas with each update. You can also transport your vehicles this way.

This should make many of the world events more accessible as well as allowing all players to reach other biomes quicker. Not to mention—it is a great way to explore the world as each new teleport location you discover will be added to your transportation network.

Some other key additions and changes this time

  • lots of new items, crafting recipes, food, plants, fish, technologies, status effects, etc.
  • significant changes to UI and overall presentation of the game
  • new customization options for your characters including entirely new faces
  • new wall type (fence) which you can shoot through (unlocked in T3)
  • new quests and changes to existing quests to make them more interesting
  • many performance and QoL improvements all around
  • major improvements and performance optimizations for CryoFall Editor to help you create your own worlds and experiment with any ideas!
  • lots of new steam achievements!

Official servers wipe

This time all of the official servers (both PvP and PvE) are wiped as A29 is a massive update that introduces breaking changes into the game. We welcome you to join all the newly started servers with the fresh economy and all of the new stuff introduced by the update!

Legacy support

As usual, we make a legacy branch for the previous (A28) version client available if you intend to keep using it on a community or a private server. Just open game properties in the Steam Client, navigate to the BETAS tab, and select the "legacy-a28" branch.

Ready for Halloween!

Added on 29 October 2020 by ai_enabled.

Greetings, survivors! We have a new Halloween event ready and we would like to let you know about the upcoming official PvP servers wipe!

Similarly to last year, this event also introduces a few small changes to the game to get you into the Halloween mood. Among other things you can find new T-shirts, pumpkin hats as well as actual pumpkins you can grow in your farm. You can find seeds the same way as you do with any other seeds, but the probability of finding them is very high. So, give it a try! :)

Aside from the Halloween event, we have also introduced several QoL improvements and fixes into the game as well as general optimizations to ensure that game servers don't have performance issues even when they are alive for over 100 days and have many thousands of registered players in total. You can find the detailed patch notes on the Official Forums.

Additionally, we would like to remind you that all the Official PvP servers have a scheduled wipe this Friday (October 30th).
Wipe time: 1 PM by GMT/UTC time (as usual).
For your convenience, here is the local time in the primary time zones we have:
• 8 AM by Central US (CST, GMT-5 summer time)
• 2 PM by Central EU (CET, GMT+1 summer time)
• 16:00 by Russia/Moscow (GMT+3)
• 21:00 by China/Beijing (GMT+8)
• 10 AM by Argentina/Brazil (GMT-3)
• 10 PM by Japan and South Korea (GMT+9)

Also, we're actively working on A29 Update—please join the Official Discord to follow the upcoming features feed!

A28 "Justice" Update Release

Added on 3 October 2020 by ai_enabled.

We are happy to announce that the A28 "Justice" Update is now live!

This time it is not our usual huge content release, but rather an equally important technical update. Those of you who play on PvP servers didn't like that certain mods offered certain advantages to its users, so in order to improve the balance for PvP players, we have introduced several changes to the game that remove any possibility to gain an unfair advantage and reignite the fire of competition on PvP servers. But obviously, these are not the only changes in this version. A28 introduces a large number of different QoL and balance improvements.

Some major changes include:

  • New improved security with executable anti-tampering, binary integrity checks, network encryption, critical component obfuscation, and code virtualization to prevent any client-side modifications when playing on special secure PvP servers. And as always, our existing authoritative server model makes server-state hacks categorically impossible. You can read more about new security features in the patch notes. We feel confident it will put away most hackers but we're also keeping our hand on the pulse to act quickly if we notice anything suspicious.
  • Reworked medical system, now you don't need to spam different medical items in combat and instead need to carefully choose what and when to use, especially in PvP, but it is also important in PvE.
  • You can now see the contents of ALL technological groups regardless of their prerequisites. This will make it easier to plan your technological progression.
  • In PvE you can now build a lithium extractor and oil pump in any biome, so you don't have to have several separate bases. But you can definitely still do that if you want.
  • Significant changes to weapon and ammo balance, the biggest of which is making T3-T5 ammo significantly cheaper. This should make those weapons more useful and you won't have to continue using lower-tier weapons even though you have access to better weapons just to save resources.
  • New laser sight item which can be equipped into the device slot to give all of your weapons laser aiming.
  • Lots of different UI improvements to make things easier to use or more convenient.
  • Many important fixes that address different issues in the game, such as the ability to destroy mechs of other players in PvE. We've ensured that all the reported issues are now fixed.

We have also continued working on the game balance to make progressing smoother and more rewarding. Especially when playing solo and without access to help from other players. You will now be able to access more T4 and T5 technologies easier without the need to farm resources.

As always, you can find detailed patch notes on our forums.

Obviously, it is not the extent of the work that was done. Originally we planned to have "Factions Update" released as A28 but had to postpone it for A29 because the game urgently needed fixes that we mentioned above and in patch notes. But thankfully none of that work has been lost and while the aforementioned fixes were implemented we continued working on new content and features and when A29 finally hits it will include double the amount of new content and features, so definitely stay tuned! Massive changes are inbound! Not only the faction system, but completely reworked map (with warp points!), all new raid-boss and new monsters, and a massive amount of new items, buildings, and new features in general!

A27 "Total Overhaul" Update Release

Added on 16 July 2020 by ai_enabled.

We are happy to announce that the A27 "Total Overhaul" Update is now live! We are confident in saying this update is going to be the most important one in the entire history of the game. You didn’t like grind and neither did we. So this update we reworked the game from the ground up not only to eliminate any unnecessary grind (especially at higher tiers), but to also completely change the feel and progression! So, what does this update bring to the table? Let’s review some of the bigger changes.

One of the most important changes related to progression is introduction of industrial drones. You will no longer need to use a pickaxe to mine for minerals or an axe to get wood. You will be able to use the swarm of your industrial drones to do that work for you as soon as you reach Tier 3.

Another important addition that will be most interesting to PvE players is fishing. You will be able to craft a fishing rod and different types of bait and go fishing! The game will also keep track of your records of size and weight for each fish caught allowing you to compete with other players. What you can catch also depends on the body of water (e.g. lakes or the ocean) and the type of bait you use. So fishing is actually quite involved already.

We have also worked to introduce detailed tooltips to practically everything in the game that needs it. You will be able to see detailed information about your weapons, ammo, armor, and consumables. Some items also received additional hints explaining their usage or special quirks.

We also heard your requests to have more character customization options! So now you can choose from much wider options when creating your character. And if you are playing in a group you can also choose to hide your helmets to identify each other easier.

Industrial aspect of the game has also been expanded A LOT! We finally have Tier 5! And all other tiers have been rebalanced to play well in the new 5 tier system for technologies. And as mentioned before—progression now is much faster. So you can comfortably reach tier 5 even when playing solo. You will be able to build a lot of new interesting structures such as oil cracking plant, atmospheric moisture extractor, new vehicle (siege mech with artillery cannon), and more.

A27 also introduces “Electricity 2.0 System” which completely changes how the power grid operates on your base. Now you can set up custom thresholds for each individual building and know exactly when any of them go online and offline based on the stored energy level in the power grid. You can also prioritize your generators as you wish to ensure the smooth operation of your base.

If you are playing in PvP you will also be happy to know that now you can sleep well without worrying about your base being raided! You can enable this new S.H.I.E.L.D. system and it will protect your base while you are offline. Additionally, having this offline protection allowed us to rebalance the bombs balance to make raiding more accessible for everyone and online engagements more fun.

Other important changes:

  • Structures relocation—Now you don’t have to disassemble your structures just to move them. Now you can simply use your toolbox to move any structure inside your base.
  • Pragmium sensor—Pragmium hunting will no longer depend on luck, but rather on skill!
  • PvE tagging / object claiming—PvE players will be happy to know that they no longer need to worry about other players touching their loot thanks to the new personal lock system. If it’s yours—it’s yours!
  • New skills—You can now unlock Fishing and Vehicles skills.
  • Lots of new Steam achievements (more than 30 now!)
  • Full DirectX 10 support—Making the game accessible even for people with older hardware.
  • And much, much more!

As always, you can find detailed patch notes on our forums.

With all of the above, we can confidently say that the game now feels smooth and rewarding as it should be. It got the sense of "one more thing" when you constantly have something to do in the game. To ensure the perfect balance, we've dedicated more than 100 hours just for testing alone. First on a private server and then for two weeks on a public experimental server together with other players.

Anyway, if there was ever a time to rejoin the game—it is now! We’d love for everyone to give this update a go and try all of the new content and features. Join all the newly started servers with a fresh economy for this A27 Update!

CryoFall Survey—May 2020 (UPDATE: survey completed!)

Added on 7 May 2020 by Lurler.

Good day, everyone!

It's been a while since the last time we conducted a community survey about the future of CryoFall, but seeing that the game has developed a lot in that time we felt now would be the perfect opportunity. Especially considering that we want to prepare the game for release some time in the future. We want to make sure we understand what's important from the players' perspective.

Please follow this link to participate in the survey:
https://forms.gle/jf7nMQYL29Tdupy96

The survey is fairly short, so it should only take a few minutes to complete. Please try to give us your honest opinion so we can better understand what you think is the important the most and where we should take the game from here.

UPDATE. We've just closed the survey which was running for a while now. Almost a thousand people participated.
Thank you very much everyone! It really helped us have a clearer picture of what people think about certain aspects of the game and the future the game will take!

A26 "Pragmium War" Update Release

Added on 23 April 2020 by Lurler.

We are happy to announce that the A26 "Pragmium War" Update is now live!

The update has received a lot of positive feedback on the experimental servers over the course of the past two weeks while this update was in the testing phase, which is really great!

Now, what does this update introduce? Let’s find out!

Let's start with something simple. This update finally introduces achievements to the game. You will be able to unlock almost two dozens of different achievements liberally sprinkled throughout your experience in the game. And in the long run, our plan is to add even more.

Now something more interesting! The biggest change of this update is the introduction of world events! You can expect to see several event types such as boss fights, crashing meteorites, fall of space debris, native life form migrations, etc. We will keep adding more events in future updates as well. The goal is to have something happening in the world at all times, so you and your friends will get a perfect distraction from your regular loop of building the base and exploring the world.

The world events were one of the most requested features in our public roadmap (Trello page) for a long time, essential to open a new dimension of the gameplay, especially in PvE as it lacked such challenges before. Coincidentally, this update finally introduces mechs in PvE as they would be handy to fight the new boss!

Next, we have also completely changed most of the technology trees and groups, streamlining the progression and removing unexpected dependencies. Tiers 3 and 4 especially were heavily rebalanced to ensure smoother progression with significantly less grind to research, craft, and build stuff. The highest technology tiers are perfectly attainable even by solo players now.

The all-new Completionist menu will keep track of all things you have discovered in the world and the things you tried so far. For every new discovery, you can acquire a small amount of bonus LP (Learning Points) which will make your progression feel more rewarding.

The decorative objects received an update too! There are many more of them now—and they are all in separate groups, 100% non-mandatory so they will not hinder your progress. Just a little extra for those who want it. See the image above for some examples.

You will also be pleased to know that we have finally introduced grenade launchers and the crossbow along with several new long-range rifles and other small things! You can build these new grenade launchers and grenades when you reach Tier 3. The crossbow, on the other hand, is available from the very start of the game and you can craft it without using a workbench which makes it a very convenient starter weapon, though not as powerful as firearms.

Another small change was a reworking of character faces and bodies. While this change is not a major one it still makes the game look substantially better! We hope you will enjoy this change as well. Most importantly, it lays down the foundation for us to introduce skin tone and hair color changes in the future updates as these new sprites are already designed to work with this new system in mind.

Some other major changes and new features include:

  • Reworked map with new areas, bridges to connect parts of the map across the water, new points of interest, decorations, etc.
  • New "Well rested" status effect which gives a bonus to those players who can't play the game 24/7 and helps them to stay competitive with more active players. Basically, it's a daily bonus which provides a small buff to the gained LP and skill XP.
  • Clan tags! Yes, you can now add a tag to your party which will be displayed next to your username in the game. For now, it is only a small taste of the proper clan system coming in the future.
  • New quests and reworked existing questline to make progression more logical.
  • Reworked food, electricity, mineral extraction, and many other areas of the game.
  • Storage chest tags. Now you can set icons on your chests to indicate what's inside.
  • Minimap! No need to open the full map every time you want to check your surroundings.
  • And much, much more!

You can read the complete patch notes on Official Forums.

The game really does feel completely different compared to previous versions and we'd love for you to try all of these new changes and new content! Join all the new newly started servers with a fresh economy for this A26 update!

Don't forget to join our discord to be aware of all news and updates. We post a lot of upcoming content art and other interesting things there regularly: https://discordapp.com/invite/cryofall

That's it for now! See you in the game!

Ohhh wait! If you're a PvP player, please keep reading!

There are three important changes for PvP gameplay and mechanics:

1. As the game was heavily rebalanced to ensure smoother progression, it's clear that experienced players can reach higher tech tiers unreasonably quickly like they're competing for the CryoFall Speedrun World Record :) but it's ruining the game balance!

A26 introduces a new time-gating system specifically for the official PvP servers to solve this problem: progression to T3/T4 will be temporarily time restricted when the server starts. These technologies will unlock and become available for research sequentially after a few days, giving all players an opportunity to advance in the game and ensuring much more balanced gameplay with a lot more time to appreciate different stages of PvP combat progression with low tier equipment and weapons! It's incredible fun, trust us! (If you're hosting a community server you can customize this feature as you want by editing ServerRates.config or disable it altogether)

2. We know that the lack of substantial alternative ways to acquire oil and Li in PvP was a problem for many of you for the longest time. Race to capture resource deposits led players to create massive teams. Not only it hindered tech progression for everyone else, but it also caused a snowball effect with the strongest clan becoming even stronger.

To solve this problem, in A26 players can build oil and Li extractors in their primary bases (similar to how it works in PvE though with a distance requirement so you cannot just place extractors near each other). While this source of oil/Li is unlimited, the extraction is reasonably slow and inefficient—only good enough to sustain the needs of small teams and solo players. The large oil and Li deposits are still spawned as before—and they still provide a fast and more efficient way to extract these resources so they're still pretty valuable in PvP.

3. While we certainly understand that the full loot system has its thrills, we believe that it's time to experiment with it. You are likely aware that crafting good armor requires a lot of effort and most players feel discouraged when losing it, while the more successful players accumulate tons of trophy armor sets stacked in their chests…

A26 introduces an experimental change on the official PvP servers—the equipped armor and devices will not drop in case of death (they will take a 15% durability penalty instead). The rest of the items (such as the content of the hotbar with weapons and tools such as axe/pickaxe; also the inventory) will drop as usual (NO changes here). The argument here is that players will be more willing to take on the risks as they will at least save the expensive armor in case of death. It's just a bit easier to recover so we believe it will facilitate more PvP fights overall while not being as devastating for the losing side. The change will be live on all the official PvP servers on the wipe day and we will gather players' feedback by the end of the first wipe in 4 weeks. (If you're hosting a community server you can disable this feature by editing ServerRates.config)

See you in the game!

A25 Balance Update Release

Added on 3 February 2020 by ai_enabled.

Originally A25 update was planned for release at the end of February, but after some consideration, we decided why wait when we can release all of the features and improvements right now and just work on remaining features in the next update!

So, what is new this time? As the name of the update implies—it focuses heavily on balancing the game. Since the release of A24 “Mechanized Update” we have received a lot of valuable feedback from players and based on it we were able to implement over 150 changes to make the game more interesting, progression smoother, significantly reduce grind and offer other improvements. There are still things we want to work on in this regard, but we are happy to see that CryoFall slowly inches closer to the way we envisioned it and we hope you will appreciate the improvements!

New content:

  • New light mech! Now there are two: light Skipper mech and medium Manul mech.
  • Completely new visuals for tropical boar. Players are already lovingly calling him Pumba :)
  • Electric cooking stove.
  • Projector tower to light up your base and surrounding areas.
  • And the most important of all—mineral processing plant! It will help you increase the yield on the ores you have mined, first turning them into ore concentrate before smelting.
  • Super heavy armor—ideal in defense as it provides a maximum level of protection against all types of damage, though at the cost of severely reduced mobility.
  • And more!

Some of the features this time include:

  • Wild creatures will react to the player with unique sounds for aggression and fleeing. Furthermore, aggression sounds propagate at quite large distances and you can notice the sound cues on the edge of your screen if the sound is coming from somewhere outside your view area.
  • Technology trees have been significantly reworked to reduce dependency between tiers and individual groups. This still leaves a lot of room for specialization but removes most of the annoying situations where you may have needed to unlock some other group to be able to craft a particular item. As long as you unlock primary technologies first, before unlocking specialized technologies you should be good now!
  • Improved balance to existing weapons and armor. To be more specific—ammo is now cheaper to craft and armor is rebalanced to give each armor type their unique role. For example, A.P.A.R.T. suit now has much higher protection from heat and psi making it an ideal choice for exploring volcano areas.
  • Improved network code now offers super-smooth gameplay even at very high ping values but also much less lag even on the low ping. You can really feel the difference!
  • Additional improvements to the server performance. Technically it is now possible to run servers with as much as 500 simultaneous players! Though, for the time being, we will limit the official servers for up to 300 players.
  • Larger and improved world with more roads and new volcano area (though only for the new servers; the existing servers have to use A24 map as players already have their bases everywhere and it is not possible to change the world map without wiping the server).
  • Unlike previous updates, A25 doesn't require servers wipe to update from A24. We have ensured a smooth upgrade from A24!

Please note that the official PvP servers are following a regular 4-weeks wiping cycle which we have announced earlier.

And many more. As always, you can read the full patch notes for A25 update on our forums.

That’s it for the time being. We will continue working on the next version a few more substantial features and additions (especially for PvE servers). Stay tuned and enjoy the A25 update!

A24 Mechanized Update Release

Added on 25 November 2019 by ai_enabled.

We are happy to announce that A24—Mechanized Update is released! It is the biggest update to the game thus far! We are happy to see our old and new players joining the game and trying out all of the new features we were able to introduce this time.

You might also be interested to take a look at the trailer we prepared for this update:
With this update we are also introducing our Supporter Pack. The pack doesn't provide any advantage in the game and is purely optional. It includes the game's complete soundtrack (now 7 tracks, total over 22 minutes long), concept art, high-resolution game art, chat badge, etc. More to come! As the game keeps evolving, more artwork and more musical pieces will become available. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your support and for helping to shape CryoFall!

We have also added a CryoFall Demo which anyone can download directly from the Steam page. It is the complete version of the game with nothing cut or removed! You can play for 8 hours to see if CryoFall is something you can enjoy, then purchase the full version and continue playing with your existing character.

So, what's new in A24? Please take a deep breath and take a look below!

As you’ve probably guessed from the header picture—the biggest change is the introduction of vehicles. We’ve added several different vehicle types including gravi-platforms (hoverboards) which are great for long-distance travel around the map, as well as heavy battle armor (a mech!) which could prove useful in combat—be it defending your base or assaulting someone else’s.

Major improvements in gunplay and ballistics! All ranged weapons were reworked and carefully rebalanced, ensuring that each gun has intuitive strengths and weaknesses. Recoil has a massive effect on accuracy for automatic weapons, resulting in less precise spray patterns when firing long bursts. A crosshair is added to help with aiming—it's getting larger when accuracy drops, and grayed-out if there is no ammo or the weapon is reloading. A short aiming cooldown is added—if you stop firing, your character will quickly re-aim so the crosshair will be restored back to normal and you can make accurate shots again. This way, automatic weapons could be used to make single precise shots at long distances at the cost of a reduced fire rate, or make long bursts when you don't worry about losing accuracy. Furthermore, each weapon has its unique spray pattern for long bursts, which is possible to learn and compensate for when aiming. Shotguns with buckshot, as well as plasma weapons are now firing multiple projectiles at once, making them much harder to dodge—but also less effective at greater distances. Sniper rifles will always do single precise shots, making them superior for long range combat, but its low firing rate makes it much less effective at closer distances when compared to machine guns and shotguns.

Pistols are quick to draw and their accuracy and low recoil makes them great for medium range, but much less effective in close-quarters combat or against long-range weapons.

Finally, the projectile traces and hit sparks (which also depend on surface materials) were added to better convey the unique properties of each weapon and ammunition!

These improvements are adding a whole new dimension into the game, making gunfights much more tactical, and weapons feel more impactful and visceral!

Another big change is the complete rebalancing of the electricity system. Now, building your electricity grid is more interesting as you can build sustainable electricity production for all of your structures that work using electricity. This applies to both PvP and PvE servers. You can also use electricity in the new Vehicle Assembly Bay to construct and repair your vehicles.

Farming and cooking weren't left out either. Plants can now go through the entire life cycle from planting to withering if left unharvested. And all food recipes have been changed to make cooking more involved with active food effects becoming more diverse as well, now covering three separate effects: hearty food (which gives different strength bonuses), healthy food (which improves your character health) and savory food (offering learning bonuses).

Some other major changes and new features include: new dynamic music system which will change depending on your environment and actions (such as when raiding a base, exploring an abandoned town, or simply visiting a large player base) as well as several new music tracks, proper support for female characters, completely reworked world map with new roads and points of interest, dozens of new items, recipes, technologies, structures and more!

Anyway, if you are interested to see the full list of changes for A24 update—you can find them on our forums, as always.

It is time to jump in and enjoy the game to the fullest! As always, official servers have been wiped for this update and are ready to offer you a new chance to compete in a fresh economy!

A23 Electricity Update Release

Added on 12 August 2019 by ai_enabled.

It’s been a while since our last update but we are finally ready to present you A23, the “Electricity Update”!

This time, the list of changes is so massive that it would be very hard to present them here in a blogpost. But we will do our best to share the most important changes and new features!

The biggest change in this version is the introduction of the Electricity System! Establishing a power grid for your base is an important step toward increased efficiency, production, and security. Many new advanced structures (such as electric furnace, freezer or even psi field projector) require electricity to operate, which could be provided from various generators (such as steam, solar, fuel, and even bioreactors). We've ensured that this system is simple yet powerful, so we can use it as a foundation for a lot of new, reworked, and future content.

Many players asked us if we can implement an item repair mechanic. We've considered various options and implemented the tinker table—a new structure which allows you to combine two broken items into one repaired item and also restore some extra percent of durability based on the new Maintenance skill you can master.

We've added several new creatures, two new distinct biomes (swamps and volcanic area) and also expanded the map a bit. You can find the latest map here.

A few other important changes are new status effect icons above the affected characters and reworked hitboxes. This makes PvP fights much more interesting, especially during base raids or when fighting over oil or lithium deposits!

Starting with this version, you will be able to see when a particular server was wiped, making it easy to judge which server to join, but more importantly, the featured community servers will be displayed together with the official servers, giving them more exposure. If you've considered playing on CryoSmall (a community server with a limit on party size and strict moderation)—it's a good time to join and try it!

As always, there are dozens of new items (such as energy pills, items used in food canning, slime & insect meat which can be acquired from monsters, various canned food, duct tape, etc.), new structures (tinker table, electric furnace, psionic projector, several generators, freezer, water pump, energy storage, recharge station, etc.), new technology groups (electricity, cooking, canning, etc.), new and reworked quests, reworked character status effects (their effects are rebalanced and made much more clear now), and other new content.

Some of you might be excited to hear that the LP penalty has been removed. Now, even if your character dies you won’t lose accumulated LP. This should provide a smoother progression.

There are also dozens of small quality of life (QoL) improvements all throughout the game which should make your experience in the game much more enjoyable!

Overall, there are almost 200 major changes. You can find detailed patch notes on the Official Forums.

Finally, this version also includes three new languages: Polish, Turkish and Japanese. We’re looking forward to seeing even more people joining the game!

This update is very large and took a lot of time to finish—in fact, it's probably a bit too large, so in the future we would prefer to add smaller updates but deliver them more often (roughly every 1.5 months or so). Also, it's the first update which was tested in the experimental branch by our community—and it turned out to be a great success, as we were able to dramatically improve it thanks to everyone who has participated and provided their feedback!

Anyway, it is time to jump in and enjoy the game to the fullest! As always, official servers have been wiped for this update and are ready to offer you a new chance to compete in a fresh economy!
